Xcent automatic transmission problem
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Hyundai Xcent diesel with 61975 km has an issue where it won't start in 'P', accompanied by a check engine light and occasional gearbox slipping. The problem is suspected to be a defective control unit. It is suggested to try starting the car in neutral ('N') to determine if the park/neutral safety switch is the issue. However, a professional diagnosis confirmed the defective control unit, requiring replacement.
Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Yes, it starts in neutral. The battery is two years old and seems fine. Given that it starts in neutral, would you still suspect the park/neutral safety switch on my Xcent? Was that the issue on your Opel Astra?

The park/neutral safety switch is suspect, but I am not an expert. My Opel Astra needed a control unit replacement and recalibration. I would recommend a professional diagnosis. It sounds beyond my expertise.

The workshop confirmed it: defective control unit. The repair will cost about 1000€. Thanks for the guidance!

I had similar issues with my Opel Astra: wouldn't start in 'P,' check engine light, gearbox issues, and error codes. Try starting in neutral ('N'). If it starts, it's likely the park/neutral safety switch. How old is your battery? A weak battery can cause weird electrical issues.
