XRV Remote Locking Issue

Hi, I have a 2016 Honda XRV with a gasoline engine and I'm having a weird issue. My car keeps throwing an error, and the remote locking/unlocking barely works anymore. Also, it won't start unless the key is physically in the ignition. I'm suspecting it might be related to the bumper antenna. Anyone else experienced this?

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Honda XRV owner is experiencing issues with remote locking and starting the car without physically inserting the key, suspecting a problem with the bumper antenna. Another person with a similar experience suggests that the issue might be due to corrosion in the antenna cable or plug connection. The recommended solution is to have the antenna mount and connections checked by a professional, which resolves the problem after a defective cable connection is identified and repaired.

This sounds eerily familiar! I've got an XRV as well, and went through almost the same palaver. It's likely the antenna cable or the plug connection to the component has corroded. Classic case of galvanic corrosion if you ask me. Did you notice any change in radio reception recently? Sometimes it's hard to pin point.

Radio reception seems okay, but where exactly should I be looking for this cable and plug? Is it easy to get to, or will I have to disassemble half the bumper?

Okay, if the radio is fine then the antenna itself might still be okay. I wouldn't try tackling the antenna mount on your own, unless you are clued up. You will need a multimeter, for one. These systems are quite sensitive and I recall that I paid around 95€ to have the antenna mount checked, the plug replaced and re-sealed. I’d bite the bullet and take it to a workshop before you make things worse.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. The mechanic found a defective cable connection to the antenna. 95€ later, everything's working perfectly again!
