Xsara belt tensioner issue
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Citroen Xsara diesel is experiencing issues with a faulty belt tensioner, leading to problems with the belt handover. The suspected cause is the defective belt handover itself. A similar issue was resolved by replacing the belt tensioner and idler pulley, which required professional repair services.

Not that many, I've already had experience with similar issues. What did it cost you to fix? Did they exchange the idler pulley too?

I didn't bother diagnosing it myself beyond a quick look. I took it straight to the shop as I didn't want to risk messing with the timing belt. They sorted it, but it wasn't cheap. If I remember correctly, it was around 455€, parts and labor. And yes, they changed the idler pulley as well.

Thanks for confirming. I will go to the garage then. Seems my estimation about the cost was pretty accurate.

I've got a Xsara too, and that sounds familiar. I had similar noises, and the belt looked like it was about to jump ship. How many hours did you put in to diagnose it?
