Xsara Headlight and Windshield Washer Issue

My 2003 Citroen Xsara diesel (150k on the clock) has a weird issue. The headlight cleaning system has totally stopped working, and now the windshield washer doesn't work either! I've checked the fuses, and they seem fine. I even tried squirting some WD-40 on the pump connectors, but no luck. Could a clogged nozzle really kill the whole windshield washer system too?

Sounds familiar. I've got a Citroen Xsara too. Had a similar problem with mine a while back. Does the pump make any noise when you try to use the washers? If not, it could be the pump itself, or the relay that controls it. I wouldn't rule out corroded electrical connections either. Give those a really good look.

Cheers for the reply! No noise at all from the pump, total silence. Where exactly is the relay located? And how do I tell if the cable connection is defective? Just looking for corrosion?

The relay is usually in the fuse box under the hood, check the car's manual to be sure of the location. As for the cable, yeah, look for any green crusty stuff which indicates corrosion. Even if you can't see it, a bad connection can still be the culprit. To be honest, if you're not comfortable messing with electrics, it might be worth getting a workshop to take a look.

Took your advice and brought her in for a proper check. It WAS a dodgy cable connection to the pump AND a faulty relay, just like you said! Cost me 165€ to get it sorted, but at least I can see where I'm going now. Thanks again for the tip!
