Xsara Incorrect Fuel Composition Error

I'm having a weird issue with my 2001 Citroen Xsara diesel. It's got 184328 km on the clock. The check engine light comes on intermittently, and sometimes it stalls when idling, which is a pain. I scanned it, and it's throwing an error about incorrect fuel composition. I've checked the fuel cap and filler neck for obvious damage, and I'm not seeing anything. Any ideas? Could a dodgy sensor cause this, or is it more likely something wrong in the combustion chamber? Fuel economy seems a bit off too, which makes me think maybe wrong fuel is being injected.

I had something similar happen with my Xsara. The check engine light was on all the time, and the engine would cut out randomly. Really frustrating. Was there any engine knock with your issue? Because it sounds familiar.

Interesting. No engine knock that I've noticed, thankfully. What did it turn out to be with your car? And was it the same 'incorrect fuel composition' error? I'm trying to avoid taking it to a garage if I can, but this is getting beyond my basic toolkit.

Yeah, it was the same error code. Honestly, I messed about with it for ages, checking plugs and wiring, but couldn't find anything obvious. In the end, I took it to a workshop. They said the cable or plug connection of the component was defective. They fixed it and it cost 95€. Best bet is take it to the workshop.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like I'm chasing a similar gremlin. I'll check the wiring and connections myself one last time, but it's probably heading to the workshop. Cheers for the help!
