Xterra Overheating
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Nissan Xterra is experiencing overheating issues and slow warm-up times, despite having adequate coolant levels. The problem is suspected to be related to the thermostat, which may be stuck open, causing the engine to overheat under load. It is recommended to have a mechanic inspect the thermostat and possibly the thermostat housing or temperature sensor. The issue was resolved by replacing the thermostat, costing 350€.

Fluctuates? Not really, it just climbs way higher than it should when driving. So, you think it's likely the thermostat then? What was the fix on your Volvo?

Yeah, it does sound like the thermostat. In my case, it was stuck open, causing the engine to run cooler than normal and eventually overheat under load. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a mechanic. It could also be the thermostat housing or even a faulty temperature sensor, but thermostat is the most probable culprit.

Thanks, that's really helpful! I'll get it to a workshop asap to check the thermostat and housing. Hopefully, that's all it is! Will post what the solution is once it's sorted out. Turns out it was indeed the thermostat and the full repair cost 350€. Thanks again!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Volvo a while back. Overheating and slow warm-up times usually point to a thermostat problem. Have you noticed if the temperature gauge fluctuates a lot?
