Xterra rough engine catalytic converter

Having trouble with my 2013 Nissan Xterra, gasoline engine, 35667 km on it. Engine's running really rough, almost uneven. Check engine light is on, error stored but I don't have the code handy. Notice some jerking when accelerating, especially at lower speeds. Could it be exhaust leak, oxygen sensors, crankshaft sensor, fuel injectors, or dirty air filter? Trying to gather info before I take it in.

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I had something similar happen with my old Fiat, same jerking and check engine light. Turned out to be a faulty catalytic converter. Is the exhaust louder than usual? That was my first clue. Might be worth checking!

The exhaust does seem a bit louder now that you mention it! What exactly is a catalytic converter, and how did you know it was the problem? How much did you end up paying for the repair? Trying to get a sense of what I might be in for.

A catalytic converter reduces toxic gases and pollutants in exhaust gas. The mechanic spotted it right away during the inspection. Honestly, with the louder exhaust and engine light, I'd take it to a trusted shop to diagnose it properly. Cost me a pretty penny, but better than driving around with a messed-up engine!

Thanks a bunch! I took your advice and brought it to a workshop. Turns out, there was indeed a leak in the exhaust system, near the catalytic converter, like you guessed! They quoted me 265€ for the repair. Appreciate the insight!
