Xterra Transfer Case Limp Mode

Alright Xterra gurus, I've got a head-scratcher. My 2009 Nissan Xterra with the gasoline engine is acting up at 97999 km. The transfer case seems to be stuck in some kind of limp mode. I'm getting some seriously unclean shifting and slipping, almost like the torque converter is having a party of its own. Could this be a domino effect from a dodgy ABS system? I've read some stuff about that, but I'm open to ideas.

Hmm, limp mode is never fun. ABS faults can mess with things. Is the gear selector behaving normally? Any diagnostic trouble codes popping up?

Gear selector feels normal, no weird noises or anything. As for codes, yeah, a few are related to the ABS, but I'm seeing nothing specific to the transfer case itself. Could a bad ABS module really throw the transfer case into limp mode like that?

It's possible. Modern systems are so interconnected, a fault in one area, like ABS, can definitely trigger consequential issues elsewhere, including the transfer case and its limp-home function. I'd suggest getting a professional to dig deeper.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions! I ended up taking it to a shop, and you were spot on. ABS fault was indeed the culprit. Apparently, it was a simple sensor issue. No actual repair cost as the sensor was covered under an extended warranty. Crisis averted!
