XTrail Exhaust Temperature Sensor Fault

I have a 2016 Nissan XTrail with a diesel engine. Recently, the check engine light illuminated, and I've noticed reduced engine power and higher fuel consumption. I scanned the car and it indicates a faulty exhaust temperature sensor. The car has 217930 km on the clock. Could a leak in the exhaust system be responsible for triggering this?

Hey, I had something similar with my XTrail (not sure about the year). Same symptoms: check engine light and the fuel consumption went up. Did you check any other exhaust component, like for soot?

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't noticed any soot, but given the sensor readings, are temperature fluctuations a common symptom if the exhaust is compromised elsewhere?

Yeah, that's exactly what happened to me. Turned out a small crack in the exhaust manifold was messing with the sensor readings. I spent ages checking the sensor itself. Just go to a workshop and let them check the entire car exhaust.

Ok, thanks for the insight. Took the XTrail to the workshop today. As suspected, there was a leak in the exhaust system, causing the temperature sensor fault. Got it fixed for 265€. Everything seems fine now.
