Thanks! I haven't checked myself, but you're right, it could be corroded connections. But what is the steering pump? Is it just for the power steering system or something else?

The steering pump is indeed part of the steering system, and it provides the pressure needed for assisted steering. If a cable is defective then the cost could be about 95€. But considering the error code and the symptoms you're describing, it might be best to have a workshop take a look. They'll be able to diagnose the problem accurately and check everything from the steering pump itself to the wheel alignment.

Alright, thanks for the advice! It sounds like it's more than just a simple fix I can manage. I'll book it in with a workshop and hopefully, they can sort it out.

Sounds like you're experiencing classic symptoms of power steering failure. The vibrating, spongy feel, and increased effort all point in that direction. You mentioned a possible connection issue; that's a good place to start. Have you checked the cable and plug connections to the steering pump for any obvious signs of damage or corrosion? Think of it like a garden hose – if the connection is loose, you lose pressure.
