ABS warning light and shifting problems with BMW X3 petrol engine from 2016

Hello everyone! I have a small problem with my 2016 BMW X3 petrol engine, which has already done 52864 km. The gearshift sometimes hitches, the ABS warning light is constantly on and it makes scary noises, like a whining or grinding. I've already thought about whether this could be due to oil wear in the transfer case? Has anyone here ever had similar problems and how did it go with your mechanic? I didn't have a good feeling about my last repair... Thanks in advance for your advice!

The error code 005224 on your BMW indicates that there is wear in the transfer case oil. This could potentially be serious as it might affect the performance of your vehicle. It's recommended to change the oil in the transfer case and reset the code. If the code persists after the oil change, it could be due to a faulty sensor or a problem with the transfer case itself. In this case, I would recommend taking your vehicle to a professional mechanic or dealership for a thorough inspection. Please keep us updated on your progress and let us know if you have any further questions.

If you just crossed 130k miles, it is a preset that pops up. It will only clear with a proper scan tool and you reset VTG adaptations. The transfer case oil level should be checked and serviced as needed.

That's correct, Raskell3. The error code could be a preset that pops up when the vehicle reaches a certain mileage. It's always a good idea to check the transfer case oil level and service it as needed. If the error code persists after servicing, a proper scan tool should be used to reset the VTG adaptations. Please keep us updated on your progress and let us know if you have any further questions.

I have one more question, is it normal for the engine failure light to come on in the instrument panel because of this fault? Thank you for your answers...

Yes, it's possible for the engine failure light to come on due to this fault. The light is designed to alert you when there's a problem with the engine or related systems, which includes the transfer case. If the light is on, it's important to address the issue as soon as possible to prevent further damage. Please keep us updated on your progress and let us know if you have any further questions.

After changing the oil in the transfer case, you'll need to reset the system. This can be done using a BMW scan tool. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, I recommend taking your vehicle to a professional mechanic or dealership. They have the proper tools and knowledge to reset the system correctly. Please keep us updated on your progress and let us know if you have any further questions.
