Hi, I can well understand what you are going through. I have a 2011 BMW X1 and had similar symptoms some time ago. The check engine light came on and the power was reduced. Nothing too blatant, don't worry. After I had it checked at the garage, it turned out there was a problem with the diesel particulate filter. They had to clean it and do a software update, but that was it. As I said, nothing serious.

Hey, thanks for your quick reply. Glad to hear it wasn't anything serious with your X1. Can you remember roughly how much it cost you and whether these problems have occurred again since then? Was there perhaps something else, or was the problem completely solved afterwards? Thanks again!

Hey, maybe I can contribute something too. The cost for me was €1550. Pretty steep, I know, but I haven't had the problem with the DPF message since the visit to the mechanic. As far as I know, the diesel particulate filter was internally defective and they fixed it. So far, the problem has not reappeared, so it seems to have been solved for the time being. Anything else would have cost even more, I can imagine. PS: I drive an old VW Passat, if that's still of interest. Hope this helps you. All the best for you and your X3!

Moin Moin, I can also contribute something to this topic. If your BMW has 189,600 km on the clock, it is quite possible that the diesel particulate filter has reached its service life limit. The higher the mileage, the faster it can become clogged or lose efficiency, hence the message 'Remaining mileage low'. This happens especially if you drive a lot in the city. Of course, this costs money, but if your BMW is otherwise still fit, this is probably an option. All the best for you and your Bimmer!

I had exactly the same problem with my E61 with 206tsd km on the clock. The DPF was no longer being regenerated and had reached the end of its service life in the software. I found a workshop nearby that cleaned the DPF while it was installed and reset the status to new DPF in the software. All for less than 300 euros. No more problems since then. Consumption has also gone down.

Good morning I had exactly the same problem at 245tkm. I then did a forced regeneration and registered the filter as new in the Auo. Now everything is running normally again and the filter has perfect values again. It is a BMW F31 320 D with 190 hp. It worked for me, but there is no guarantee that it will work for everyone. If you do it, everyone is responsible for it.

Hi how did you register the filter as new? With the carly app? In my x3 f25, it also shows the bypass flap exhaust gas recirculation cooling defect in addition to the remaining distance of the filter. As a result, the forced regeneration is apparently not working either.

Hey guys, I've now made an appointment with my mechanic and explained everything to him. To be honest, I was quite worried, but luckily he found time to look at my car quite quickly. It turned out that the problem was actually with the diesel particulate filter. They carried out a thorough cleaning and did a software update. It cost 1200€, but I have the impression that the repair was worth it. So, all in all, everything went well! Thanks again to everyone for your help and advice. I hope this helps others who have similar problems!
