Assistance for diesel particulate filter and reduced engine power in BMW X3 Diesel 2008

Hello dear community, I need your support. My BMW X3 Diesel from 2008 with 189,600 km on the odometer is causing me a bit of concern. The check engine light is on, the engine power is significantly reduced, the DPF regeneration seems to be failing, my exhaust smells rather strong and is louder than usual. The last few times at the mechanic have really hit the wallet, so I wanted to ask here if anyone has had similar experiences and could possibly fix their problem more cheaply. I suspect problems with the diesel particulate filter, the message 'Remaining distance low' is also displayed. I would be grateful for any tips!

Hello javier, If your car's particulate filter seems to be in bad condition without any warning signals from the dashboard, you should consider manually inspecting the filter or using a diagnostic tool to check for error codes. Driving habits also play a role; frequent short trips can clog the filter, so try driving at highway speeds to clear it. If issues persist, consulting a professional mechanic for a thorough assessment and potential replacement is advisable to ensure optimal performance and compliance with emission standards. Do you have any other questions or concerns? Best regards, CarlyAdminNik

A solid yellow engine light and code P042E indicate an issue with the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve, which might be stuck or clogged. Cleaning the EGR valve is a good first step, as carbon buildup can cause it to malfunction. Make sure to carefully remove and clean it, ensuring all passages are clear. If the problem persists after cleaning, consider having a professional mechanic inspect it further. Please keep us updated on your progress.

concerns BMW116d, year of construction 2010, 290000km, vehicle is driven daily mainly on the highway on a distance of 50km, error message: DPF, now I have tried to read out the error and trigger the regeneration via Carly with the addition of an additive, unfortunately the diagnosis and the live data show no improvement, the required exhaust gas temperature before the DPF is not reached at all and this despite the highway for more than half an hour. How can I trigger regeneration via the app? Many thanks in advance

If the exhaust gas temperature isn't reaching the required level for regeneration, it could be due to a faulty temperature sensor or an issue with the engine not reaching optimal operating conditions. Before attempting regeneration, ensure that the engine is running efficiently and that all sensors are functioning correctly. Unfortunately, Carly might not support forced regeneration for all models. If the issue persists, I recommend having a professional mechanic inspect the DPF system and sensors to diagnose the problem accurately. Please keep us updated on your progress.
