Assistance for diesel particulate filter and reduced engine power in BMW X3 Diesel 2008

Loss of engine power

Hello dear community, I need your support. My BMW X3 Diesel from 2008 with 189,600 km on the odometer is causing me a bit of concern. The check engine light is on, the engine power is significantly reduced, the DPF regeneration seems to be failing, my exhaust smells rather strong and is louder than usual. The last few times at the mechanic have really hit the wallet, so I wanted to ask here if anyone has had similar experiences and could possibly fix their problem more cheaply. I suspect problems with the diesel particulate filter, the message 'Remaining distance low' is also displayed. I would be grateful for any tips!

Hello Halebob, A high ash mass in the DPF can lead to reduced fuel efficiency, loss of power, and potentially cause the DPF warning light to come on. If you're already at 55%, it's quite high. However, the exact point at which you'll start experiencing problems can vary depending on the specific vehicle and driving conditions. If you're not experiencing any issues yet, it might be worth having the DPF cleaned to prevent future problems. If you're already noticing issues like reduced power or increased fuel consumption, I would recommend having the DPF inspected by a professional mechanic as soon as possible.

tt cimes I have bmw x1 2010, recently changed the high preassure pump and all four of the nozzles. No warning lights what so ever, and no other fault codes other than something is wrong with the particle filter system. Engine power is 100%. Tried to delete the fault code, but it just comes back after a wile when i scan the car again. What do i need to do?

Hello MaiNorway, If the fault code related to the particle filter system keeps coming back, it's likely that there's an issue with the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). The DPF might be clogged with soot or ash and may need to be cleaned or replaced. You could try a forced regeneration process if your vehicle supports it, which can sometimes clear the DPF. However, if the problem persists, I would recommend having the DPF inspected by a professional mechanic. Please keep us updated on your progress.

Rough idling only when cold when warmed up. No problem with idling

Hello Friggerfive, Rough idling when cold could be due to a number of reasons, such as a faulty temperature sensor, dirty fuel injectors, or issues with the cold start system. It's hard to diagnose without more information. A good first step would be to check the engine coolant temperature sensor, as it plays a key role in the engine's cold start enrichment. If the sensor is faulty, it could be sending incorrect signals to the engine control unit, causing rough idling when the engine is cold. If the problem persists, I would recommend having your vehicle inspected by a professional mechanic. Please keep us updated on your progress.

I get the following message: - Diesel particulate filter information: limited remaining mileage available. - Problem category: Exhaust system. Can you please explain me what it refers to?
