Assistance for diesel particulate filter and reduced engine power in BMW X3 Diesel 2008

Check engine light on

|

DPF regeneration failure

|

Strong exhaust smell

|

Loud exhaust

|

Loss of engine power

Hello dear community, I need your support. My BMW X3 Diesel from 2008 with 189,600 km on the odometer is causing me a bit of concern. The check engine light is on, the engine power is significantly reduced, the DPF regeneration seems to be failing, my exhaust smells rather strong and is louder than usual. The last few times at the mechanic have really hit the wallet, so I wanted to ask here if anyone has had similar experiences and could possibly fix their problem more cheaply. I suspect problems with the diesel particulate filter, the message 'Remaining distance low' is also displayed. I would be grateful for any tips!

@Larry289

Where can I have my 2012 x5d dpf cleaned in area code 93162 in the US?

Hello, Unfortunately, I can't give you a clear recommendation as to where you can have this done. But my recommendation would be to look for a suitable workshop here and read the reviews of other customers. Best regards

Hello Danny93, Unfortunately, registering a new DPF is not currently possible with Carly. This is a more complex procedure that typically requires specialized BMW diagnostic equipment. I would recommend having this done by a professional mechanic or a BMW service center to ensure it's done correctly.

Hello Ingvar.petersson, After having the DPF cleaned, the warning light should go off once the system recognizes that the filter is no longer clogged. If the warning light doesn't go off, you may need to reset the DPF light using a diagnostic tool. If you don't have access to one, I would recommend taking your vehicle to a professional mechanic or a BMW service center to have the light reset.

Diesel particulate filter info: limited remaining distance available ? What exactly does it mean

Hello Alinn, This message typically means that your Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is nearing its capacity for storing soot and will soon need to be regenerated or cleaned. The DPF is a component in your vehicle that captures and stores exhaust soot to reduce emissions. Over time, the DPF can become full and will need to be cleaned through a process called regeneration. If you're seeing this message, it's likely that your vehicle will soon initiate this process. If the message persists, it might be a sign that the DPF is not regenerating properly and may need to be manually cleaned or replaced.

Hello BMWF31, The values you've provided indicate the pressure drop across the DPF at different engine speeds. Generally, a higher pressure drop indicates a more clogged DPF. However, the acceptable pressure drop can vary depending on the specific vehicle model and engine. If you're seeing a warning light for the DPF and your vehicle's performance is affected (e.g., reduced power, increased fuel consumption), it might be worth considering having the DPF cleaned. However, I would recommend consulting with a professional mechanic or a BMW service center to confirm whether this is necessary based on your specific vehicle and symptoms.
