BMAX Heavy Steering Vibration

Hi, I'm having an issue with my 2015 Ford BMAX diesel. It's got 228631 km on the clock. Recently, the steering has become increasingly heavy, almost like the power steering is failing intermittently. I'm also getting some noticeable vibrations through the steering wheel, especially at lower speeds. I suspect the steering angle sensor might be defective, as I've read a faulty coding of the sensor can cause these symptoms. Has anyone else experienced something similar with their BMAX?

Wow, that sounds familiar! I had almost exactly the same symptoms with my BMAX. The heavy steering was really alarming, like wrestling a bear! Vibrating steering wheel too. I never suspected a sensor though!

Thanks for the reply! I did some digging online and found a few threads mentioning similar issues on other Ford models. Apparently, if the steering angle sensor isn't properly calibrated or the coding gets corrupted, it can mess with the power steering assistance and traction control systems. Did your issue come on suddenly, or was it a gradual thing?

It was gradual for me, definitely got worse over a couple of weeks. Honestly, with those symptoms, I'd get it checked out by a workshop ASAP. Playing around with steering and sensors isn't really something you want to DIY unless you really know what you're doing. It could be something else entirely, of course, but a faulty steering angle sensor sounds very plausible in your case!

Thanks, I appreciate the advice! I took it to my local garage, and they confirmed it was indeed the steering angle sensor. They recoded it, and everything seems to be back to normal now. Cost me 195€. Hopefully, this thread will help others with similar steering problems.
