BMW iX Electric Issues: Jerking & Drive System Failures

Hi there! Having some concerning issues with my 2022 BMW iX (electric) at 108,678 km. The car jerks during steady speeds, throws error messages, and has rough gearbox shifts. The all-wheel drive system is also acting up. I suspect it might be transfer case oil wear, but after a bad experience with my previous mechanic, I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms with their iX? Would love to hear about your repair experiences and trusted mechanic recommendations. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had very similar issues with my 2019 BMW i4 last year. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced, jerky transmission, warning lights, and that annoying vibration at constant speeds. Turned out the transfer case had defective gears and worn seals, causing improper power distribution between axles. The repair involved replacing the entire transfer case assembly. It was quite a serious job that took several days to complete, as they had to drop the entire drivetrain. My advice, don't wait on this one. These symptoms typically get worse quickly and could potentially leave you stranded. The jerking you feel is the transfer case struggling to manage power distribution, which can lead to more extensive damage if left unchecked. Hope this helps and good luck with the repair!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know it was the transfer case in your case too. I'm a bit worried about the potential repair costs though. Would you mind sharing how much you ended up paying for the whole job? Also curious if you've had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? Always good to know what to watch out for with these cars.

Hey again! Great to hear back from you! Just wanted to update you on my i4 situation since you asked. After getting it fixed, I'm happy to report the car's running smooth as silk, no more jerking or warning lights whatsoever. The transfer case oil wear problem was definitely the culprit, just as I suspected. The total repair bill came to 330 € for fixing those defective gears in the transfer case. Not exactly pocket change, but honestly, considering how much better the car drives now, it was worth every cent. And to answer your other question, nope, haven't had a single issue since the repair. It's been really reliable, and the all-wheel drive system is working perfectly. Just make sure you get it looked at soon, these things can get worse if you wait too long. Drop me a line if you need any other info. Always happy to help out a fellow BMW owner!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! You've really put my mind at ease. I actually bit the bullet and took my iX to a mechanic yesterday. Turns out you were spot on, it was indeed the transfer case causing all the drama. The repair wasn't as painful as I'd feared, cost-wise. Theyaged to fix it for about 290 € since they only needed to replace some parts rather than the whole assembly. The mechanic was super professional and even showed me the worn-out components. The best part? Just drove it home and it feels like a completely different car! No more jerking, no warning lights, and the all-wheel drive is working perfectly again. Should've done this weeks ago instead of worrying about it. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it gave me the push I needed to get it sorted. Thanks again!
