Captiva Knock Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Chevrolet Captiva owner reported a check engine light, increased fuel consumption, and uneven idling, suspecting a defective knock sensor. Another participant shared a similar experience with a different vehicle, where a corroded connector on the knock sensor caused similar issues. The suggestion was to inspect the wiring and connectors near the sensor. The Captiva owner later confirmed that a defective plug connection on the knock sensor was indeed the problem, and after repair, the vehicle ran smoothly again.

Thanks for your input! Where exactly was the corroded connector located? Was it easy to spot?

On my Astra, it was right near the sensor itself, tucked away near the engine block. I'm no mechanic, and I struggled to find it! Honestly, you might be better off having a workshop take a peek, especially if you aren't comfortable poking around. The knock sensor itself can cause those issues, but often it's just the wiring. I ended up paying around 80€ for the repair back then.

OK, thanks for the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were right - it was a defective plug connection on the knock sensor. Repair cost me 95€, but it's running smoothly again.

Hey there! Those symptoms sound familiar. I had a similar experience with my old Opel Astra, though it was a diesel. Check engine light, terrible mileage, and the engine shook like crazy at idle. Turned out to be a corroded connector on the knock sensor. Might be worth a look!
