Eclipse Cross Power Loss & Jerking: Knock Sensor Issue?

Hey there, I'm having some trouble with my 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (99k km) and could use some advice. The engine's been acting up lately, losing power, jerking when I accelerate, and making strange noises. Check engine light is on and I'm burning through fuel faster than usual. I suspect it might be the knock sensor, but I'm hesitant about going back to my mechanic after a previous bad experience. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their Eclipse Cross? Any recommendations for reliable mechanics who are good with Mitsubishis? Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and what it ended up being in your case. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I had very similar issues with my 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander last year. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I experienced, power loss, jerky acceleration, and increased fuel consumption. Took it to my local garage last month, and it turned out to be a faulty ignition coil cable and damaged spark plug connectors. The mechanic showed me how the cable insulation had worn out, causing misfires. This was causing the engine to run rough and trigger the check engine light. The fix wasn't too complex, but it was important to address it quickly to prevent any damage to the catalytic converter. They replaced the ignition coil pack, cables, and spark plugs. The car's been running smooth since then, no more jerking or power issues. For Mitsubishis specifically, I'd recommend finding a garage that specializes in Asian imports. They usually have better diagnostic tools and experience with these specific models. Best of luck with your Eclipse Cross.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the ignition coil cable being the culprit. By any chance, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for all the repairs? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? I'm trying to get a sense of what I might be looking at cost-wise and whether this could be related to other potential problems.

Hey again! Happy to give you an update! My initial reply was actually about my Outlander, but since then, I've had my car checked by a mechanic and it turned out that in my case, it was indeed the knock sensor that was causing the trouble. The problem was actually pretty straightforward, just a defective cable and plug connection to the sensor. Only cost me 95€ to fix, which was a huge relief as I was worried it might be something more serious! Since getting it fixed, my car's been running like a dream, no more jerking, power loss, or any of those annoying symptoms I mentioned before. The fuel consumption is back to normal too. It's amazing what a difference fixing that one small issue made! If you're still having those symptoms, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out. Sometimes what seems like a major problem can turn out to be something relatively simple and affordable to fix. My mechanic did a great job, and I'm really glad I didn't put it off any longer. Let me know if you need any other info!

Thanks for the follow-up! I actually took your advice and went to get it checked out yesterday. Found a really good Asian car specialist through a 's recommendation, what a difference from my previous mechanic! They were super thorough and professional. Turns out it was a combination of issues, worn-out spark plugs and a clogged fuel injector. Cost me around $350 total for parts and labor, which wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The mechanic took the time to show me the old parts and explain everything, which I really appreciated. Car's running great now, no more jerking or power issues. Fuel economy has improved too. Such a relief! Thanks again for encouraging me to get it looked at. It's funny how we worry about these things being major repairs when sometimes it's just basic maintenance stuff that needs sorting out. Really appreciate everyone's help and advice on this. I'll definitely be sticking with this new mechanic from now on!
