It starts ok, no problems there. How can I check the battery?

Right, if it's starting okay, the battery might not be completely dead, but it could still be weak and not holding enough charge for the stop-start. You could try a multimeter to check the voltage, but honestly, the best way is to get a proper battery load test done at a workshop. Those start-stop systems are fussy, and even a slightly weak battery can cause havoc. I would suggest going to the workshop for checking the battery.

Thanks for the help! I took it to a local garage. You were right, it was the battery. New battery fitted and start-stop is working again. Cost me 290€.

Sounds like it could well be! The Eco mode on those things is super sensitive to battery health. Has it been struggling to start lately? The automatic restart relies on a strong battery to kick the engine back on quickly. If the voltage drops too low, the whole system throws a hissy fit. Is it the original battery? They usually only last 5-7 years max anyway.
