Maverick Hybrid Fuel Consumption and Stalling

I'm having some trouble with my 2020 Ford Maverick Hybrid, about 40,809 km on it. I've noticed higher fuel consumption and a definite reduction in engine power. Sometimes, the engine even stalls when idling, and I've observed smoke when accelerating. Any ideas? I've checked the air filter and made sure the petrol cap is on tight, but no luck. Could it be a performance issue?

Interesting problem. I experienced similar symptoms with my 2018 Volvo XC60, though it was a diesel. High fuel consumption, reduced power, and occasional stalling. Have you checked the cable or plug connections to the fuel injectors? A defective connection can cause those exact symptoms. It's like a loose wire in a lamp; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Thanks for the tip! I haven't checked the fuel injector connections specifically. Where exactly should I be looking, and is it something I can easily access without special tools? Is there a specific system I should be looking at?

On the Volvo, the fuel injector connections were somewhat buried under the intake manifold, but I believe on your Ford Maverick it might be more accessible. It is likely a few hours job. If you are not very experienced I would suggest you have a workshop carry out the work. To be honest, given the hybrid system, it's probably best to have a professional diagnose it properly to prevent additional problems.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. It turned out to be a defective cable connection to one of the fuel injectors. Repair cost was 95€, and it runs like new now. I really appreciate the suggestion!
