Mercedes ML Battery Issue Resolved

I'm seeing a diminished battery performance in my 2004 Mercedes ML gasoline engine, about 88000 kilometers. Weak starts and flickering lights. Diagnostics suggest a bad battery sensor. Any insights?

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my older BMW. Weak starts and flickering lights usually point to battery problems, but since your diagnostics say sensor, it might be messing with the battery charge. Have you checked the battery voltage? That could give you a clue if it's actually charging properly.

Thanks. Could you elaborate on the battery voltage check? What's an acceptable range, and how do I know if the battery sensor is the problem?

A healthy battery should read around 12.6 volts when the engine is off. When it's running, it should be higher, like 13.7 to 14.7 volts, showing the alternator is charging. If the voltage is off, and the sensor is throwing errors, it's likely the culprit. Honestly, battery maintenance can be tricky, and a bad sensor can throw off the whole system. I'd say take it to a workshop. They can properly test the sensor and the battery.

I had the vehicle inspected by a technician. The battery sensor was defective and needed replacement. The repair was 315€.
