Seat Alhambra Engine Issues

My 2003 Seat Alhambra with a gasoline engine (113082 km) is acting up. The check engine light is on, fuel efficiency is terrible, and the idling is uneven. Could this be a defective knock sensor? I have also noticed a poor performance. I read somewhere it could be the cable or plug connection. Any ideas?

Oh, a check engine light and rough idling are no fun! I actually had a similar thing happen with my Alhambra (though not sure about the build year), and it also felt like it was drinking way more fuel than usual. I'm no expert, but did you check the connector for the knock sensor? Heard those can get wonky.

Where exactly is that knock sensor connector located? Is it easy to get to? I'm not much of a mechanic but I'm willing to give it a shot before heading to auto repair.

Okay, so on mine, the knock sensor was near the engine block, kind of tucked away. Honestly, it wasn't the easiest to reach, even for someone who's tinkered with cars a bit. If you're not super comfortable, might be worth having a professional take a look. But yeah, definitely sounds like the culprit in my case was a bad connection. Ended up costing me a bit, but at least it fixed the poor performance and rough idling.

Just wanted to say thanks for the advice. It turned out to be a corroded connector on the knock sensor, just like you said. 95€ later at the auto repair, and the Alhambra is purring again!
