Seat Altea Parking Aid Fault

Right, I'm pulling my hair out here! My 2004 Seat Altea with a gasoline engine has developed a fault with the parking aid. Basically, the parking assistant is completely dead, and the error memory is showing a fault. My mechanic reckons it's likely a defective cable or plug connection to one of the components probably the parking sensors, the radar sensors, or even something to do with the obstacle detection. Anyone else had this? Quoted about 95€ for the repair, which seems reasonable if they can actually fix it!

Summary of the thread

A 2004 Seat Altea with a gasoline engine developed a fault in the parking aid system, rendering it non-functional and displaying an error. The likely causes identified were defective cable or plug connections, particularly to the parking or radar sensors. The suggested solution was to check and secure the connections to the sensors, which was confirmed as the issue when a loose connection was found and repaired by a mechanic for 95€, resolving the problem.

I am sorry to hear about the issue you are experiencing with your Seat Altea. I own the same car model, and I encountered a similar problem with the parking aid system. The parking sensors did not function, and an error message was displayed. I would suggest that you check the connections to the proximity sensors, also known as ultrasonic sensors, as these are often the source of such issues. Are you familiar with how these sensors work?

Cheers for the reply! When you say check the connections, are we talking about the plug connections themselves, or is there something else I should be looking at? I've had a quick look, but couldn't immediately spot anything obvious.

Yes, I am referring to the plug connections to the sensors themselves. In my case, it was a loose connection at one of the rear parking sensors. However, I would recommend that you consult a qualified technician to diagnose and resolve the problem, as they have the appropriate tools and expertise. It is important to ensure that all connections are secure and free from corrosion. Given the potential complexity, seeking professional assistance may be the most efficient and effective approach.

Big thanks! Took it to my local garage, and turns out it was a dodgy connection on one of the proximity sensors, just like you said. 95€ later, and it's all working perfectly again. Appreciate the help!
