Vectra EGR Valve Fault

Having trouble with my 2008 Vauxhall Vectra diesel. It's done 202349 kilometers, and I think the EGR valve is faulty. Symptoms are reduced power, check engine light, smoke on acceleration, rough idle, high fuel consumption, jerking when accelerating, and a hissing noise also when accelerating. Anyone seen these issues together? Could it be the EGR valve, or something else?

That sounds like a bad EGR valve. The symptoms are pretty typical. Have you scanned for error codes? That would help. Does it behave differently when the engine is cold?

Yes, the OBDII scanner gave an EGR valve fault code. And the symptoms are worse when the engine is cold. Does that still point to the EGR valve, or could it be the catalytic converter or something else in the exhaust recirculation system?

The EGR valve code and worse symptoms when cold make the EGR valve the likely cause. A bad catalytic converter could cause some of those issues, but focus on the EGR valve first. If a new EGR valve doesn't fix it, then check the catalytic converter. Given all the symptoms, and to protect your diesel particulate filter, I'd get a professional to look at it.

Took it to a mechanic, and they confirmed the EGR valve was faulty. Replaced it for 355€. All the symptoms are gone now, and it's running as expected. Thanks for the help.
