X1 BMW Diesel - Failure of the airbag system possible cause?

Hi, I'm having a strange problem with my 2012 X1 BMW with diesel engine. It is somehow not running as usual and an airbag error is displayed. Could it be that the airbag system has failed? Do any of you have experience with this and can give me a garage visit tip on how they best solved the problem? Thank you in advance for your willingness to help.

BMW e87 118d. Airbag and seatbelt lights on after spilling 500ml of water on passenger seat. Cleared close on carly but came back immediately. Soaked as much water up with towels and tissues and left a large silica bag on the seat overnight. Next day, bone dry and no lights on dashboard . I guess I'm just lucky.

It seems like the water spill might have temporarily affected the seat sensor or wiring, causing the airbag and seatbelt lights to turn on. It's good to hear that the issue resolved itself after the seat dried. However, I would still recommend keeping an eye on it. If the lights come back on, it would be best to have a professional mechanic inspect it to ensure there are no lingering issues. Remember, issues with the airbag system can be safety critical. Do you have any further questions?

Hi, I have a 2009 BMW E90 LCI and sometimes when a passenger gets up from the seat I get a notification that the airbag for the passenger seat has failed. It does not always happen. Does anyone know what it could be and how to fix it?

This intermittent issue could be due to a faulty seat occupancy sensor or a loose connection under the passenger seat. You can start by checking the wiring and connectors under the seat to ensure they are properly connected and not damaged. If the issue persists, a diagnostic scan tool can help identify the exact cause. However, as this is a safety-related issue, I would recommend having it checked by a professional mechanic if you're unsure. Please keep us updated on your progress.
