XC70 AC failure

My 2012 Volvo XC70, gasoline engine, AC is dead. 149411 km. No cooling, AC system won't switch on, warning light, and AC-related faults. Thinking it's a defective AC control unit. Anyone seen this?

I've got an XC70 too. Sounds familiar. Is the compressor clutch engaging at all? Or is it just nothing? When mine went, same symptoms. Like a lightbulb blowing – worked one minute, gone the next.

Good question! I'm not sure how to check the compressor clutch engagement. Any tips? What did 'going' actually mean for you in terms of the fix itself? Was it just a new compressor, or was there more to it?

If it’s a simple fix it might be the compressor, but it also could be the control unit. For me, since the refrigerant leaked it destroyed the compressor clutch and damaged the control unit. I'd bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. They’ll diagnose properly.

Thanks a million, that's really helpful. I suspected as much, but it's good to hear someone else confirm my fears. I'll book it in at the soonest opportunity. It was the defective AC control unit. Cost me 980€ to get it all sorted. Ouch! Thanks again for the advice!
