Problems with 2014 BMW 4 Series gasoline engine: engine light, rough running, high consumption - throttle valve defective?

Hey guys, I've got a problem with my 2014 petrol BMW 4 Series. The car is behaving really strangely - engine light comes on, engine just cuts out, doesn't really pick up the throttle, runs erratically, pulls when accelerating and consumes a lot of fuel. I think it could be the throttle valve, but I'm not sure. Do any of you have experience with this kind of problem and could give me a tip on what I should have checked at the garage? I would be interested to know how you have solved this and what your experiences are. Many thanks in advance!

Hi Andi, you can of course also simply disconnect your battery for about 30 minutes

Servus, or so yes. Thanks for the tip

Hi, The general problem with the throttle valve seems to be that the throttle valve shaft is not permanently sealed against the oil pressure. As a result, oil pushes past the shaft into the control unit and interferes with it. I once opened my defective throttle valve and it was half full of engine oil. Nothing can be repaired. The issue with the new flaps from the accessories and also partly with the original equipment flaps is that the square wave signal of the throttle valve does not drop steeply enough, causing the control unit to issue an error. I have tried several with always the same result: error as soon as you switch off the engine. You either have to live with it and clear the error from time to time, at best on longer highway journeys to regenerate the DPF, or buy an original throttle valve and be extremely annoyed at the price. Or be lucky that the throttle valve is selected narrowly enough. Teaching the throttle valve is also important when replacing it. You can also clean the EGR valve at the same time. These are my experiences.

Hello, What kind of error do you have exactly or what is your car doing? Has the vehicle ever been read out?

In my 1 series 118i built in 2006, the valvetronic and throttle valve have already been replaced with original bmw parts. Now, 2 days ago, the check engine light came on again, read out the valvetronic warning threshold and the throttle potentiometer. Miss replacing the throttle valve again? Car has little power and when accelerating I have the feeling that it is sometimes normal and then briefly has no power. Thanks in advance for the answers

Hello, At first it sounds as if the throttle valve is defective, but if you say it has been changed before, that is very unusual. I would first check the cable connection or the plug to see if you can detect anything. What exactly was replaced on the Valvetronic? The servomotor or more parts? Was the Valvetronic sensor that measures the position of the Valvetronic shaft replaced?

Hello valvetronic servomotor was replaced and throttle valve, after about 1 year the throttle valve was replaced again under warranty because of the same error as now, workshop said it was oily, about 3 years later so now the same problem again.

Hello, then I would have another look at the throttle valve to see if it is oily again. And then I would go looking for where all the oil is coming from, my guess would be a malfunction of the crankshaft ventilation.
