Undervoltage in the vehicle: experiences and solutions for BMW 5 Series

Hello folks! Have any of you had any experience with problems caused by undervoltage in the vehicle? My 2016 BMW 5 Series with a gasoline engine and approx. 52,416 km on the odometer is currently going crazy... The battery is weak when starting, the lights are weak or flickering and I recently had a bad experience with my mechanic. Would love to hear your opinions and experiences on this problem! Thanks in advance.

Hello, How old are the batteries installed in your vehicle?

Assuming the date stickers are correct we're looking at late 2013 and early 2014... so probably the originals. If I still had the car I'd not want to change them as long as they're charging properly... it's just short journeys that kill batteries. Good excuse for weekend road trip.

I have a 550i m sport. I bought it used, and ever since i owned it, the time andcdate doesn't stay. Id set it and it would slowly lose time. The next day, you would d have to reset it. I stopped and accepted that overnight thrre seems to be s low voltage problem. Sometimes it has a slow start. If i dit in my car for a few minutes with the engine off and th e radio on i grt a voltage battery sign. Guy i bought it from said he just replaced the battery before i bought it. Any ideas.

It sounds like your car might have a parasitic drain, which is something that continues to draw power from the battery even when the car is off. This could be causing the low voltage problem and the slow start. I would recommend having a mechanic perform a parasitic drain test. If you're comfortable doing it yourself, you can also perform this test with a multimeter.

I had an under voltage issue in my 2011 Toyota Alphard GGH20. The issue was resolved. The battery was bad.

Undervoltage according to Carly! My solution! Start the engine and go for a spin. As so often, Carly writes to me, bad condition and BMW tells me everything is great.

Hello, I have a VW T5 bus, 102 hp, year of manufacture 2014; Got answer from Carly after reading out undervoltage!!! On the vehicle is the ABS.light + the ASR light = such a light with car u.Schleuderzeichen and also the light for the air in the tire (all tires according to regulation 3.5) All lights are on all the time! Sometimes when driving for a long time, or starting 2,3 times, ABS and ASR go off and then maybe stay on again at the next start! I have already disconnected the battery, but nothing helps! Thanks Lg

It sounds like there might be an issue with your ABS/ASR system. The first thing I would recommend is to check the ABS sensors on each wheel as they can often become dirty or damaged, causing the ABS light to come on. If the sensors are fine, it might be a more serious issue with the ABS module itself. If you're not comfortable doing these checks yourself, I would recommend taking your VW to a professional mechanic.

The voltage is 12,4 v with engine seitch of an 14,4 when engine is on. The voltage to stell from pluss on accumulator is also 12,4.

Your voltage readings seem to be normal. The battery voltage should be around 12.4V when the engine is off and should increase to around 14.4V when the engine is running, which indicates that the alternator is charging the battery properly. If you're experiencing any issues, they might not be related to the battery or alternator.
